PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
